Playa Del Carmen is where “Mama Vina”m a former shrimp boat sunk in 1995. This area is full of marine life! They also will do a dive at a wreck of a C-56 “Juan Escutia” in Puerto Morelos that was sunk by the Mexican Navy in 2000. One of the most popular dives is the Whale Sharks dive. This gentle giant of the marine world, is a peaceful and tranquil create. They are harmless to humans and they behave very docile but curious. The summertime is when hundreds of these sea giants swarm the waters that surround Isla Mujeres, Isla Holbox, and Isla Contoy. They are there to feed on the plankton that are found where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Caribbean Sea.
Reef diving is also extremely popular in Playa del Carmen. Some of the very best open sea diving sites are located along the Great Mayan Reef Barrier. This is the world’s second largest coral reef full of the most colorful underwater beauty you will see during your dive.
Because of the water temperature and visibility in the Playa Del Carmen area, the diving is incredible year round.
Make sure you bring your swimsuit, a towel, biodegradable sunblock, sunglasses, and your certification card as well as your PADI Medical Questionnaire.
You are welcome to bring your own dive gear, or use the well maintained rental equipment from Dune. No worries if you don’t dive, snorkeling is allowed while others dive.
