Tulum Ruins

While cruising the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, the Tulum Ruins and the surrounding area has a lot to offer and it is the perfect combination of relaxation, seclusion, beauty and tranquility. There are various great activities in the area that you can participate in. The ruins can easily be done in a day but if you have time, there are a lot of other activities in the area like swimming with dolphins, cenotes, and eco parks. Tulum is located on the Caribbean coastline side of the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo. It is a Mayan port city and there are beautiful white beaches, mangroves, cenotes and rocky cliffs overlooking the turquoise sea. |
You can get to the ruins by way of the main highway heading south into Tulum. Most hotels in Cancún (the closest city to the Tulum ruins) either have bus tours to Tulum, or information on when and where to catch the bus. There is also a Locker Storage place by the bus station in town where you can leave your bags and it’s very affordable rather than having to tote them with you and they have a lot of information on Tulum and the surroundings. If you are driving a rental car, simply take Mexican Highway 307 south, out of Cancun.
If you are arriving at the main road entrance, there is a neat flea market where you can purchase souvenirs and snacks. You can access the Tulum ruins by taking a taxi, bicycle, or walking. The guides are fantastic and will have a lot of tips for you and may even take you to a party or two. You can either check out the ruins on your own, or hire a certified guide to take you through them. Tulum is located 102 km from Valladolid, just 48 km from Coba and 133 km away from Cancun. The town of Tulum is only 3 miles from the beach in case you’d like to partake in that. Make sure you find time to visit this great city!
