Xel-Há Ecological Park
QUINTANA ROO, MEXICO
While cruising the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, Xel-Ha' is a wonderful place to discover when cruising Quintana Roo, Mexico. The astounding beauty of Xel-Ha' theme park will be something you won’t soon forget. This natural aquatic park located not far from Cancun on the Riviera Maya on the Caribbean coast is a hidden wonder. It’s an all-inclusive park where you can snorkel, swim, and eat and drink as much as you like. |
You will see a variety of multicolored fish, numerous types of marine life that inhabits the fresh waters of its cenotes, rivers, and natural inlet. Due to Xel-Ha’s geographically located inlet, it was once used during the pre-Columbian era as a harbor for shelter, pilgrimage point, commerce location, and a refugee for sailers. It was also a safe haven for food reserves in the event of a bad weather or a hurricane or or tropical storm.
This fascinating park celebrated their 25th year anniversary in 2020. So the story goes, the Mayan claim the gods joined their dreams, wisdom, and love for beauty to create this heavenly setting. Fortunately for us, the gods were so pleased they decided to share it with all mortal creatures. The gods felt it needed to be taken good care of so they designated three guardians: “Huh” the iguana (Guardian of the Earth), “Kay Op” the parrotfish (Guardian of the Water), and “Chuc Kay” the pelican (Guardian of the Air). So the story goes, these three gods watch over the park and all its visitors.
This sustainable model and its astounding beauty are part of the largest system in the world. There are more than 600 miles of streams below the surface that flow in underground rivers to the inlet. There is beautiful flora and fauna that create this amazing and tranquil setting. The park also has a mangrove zone, and a 16 ft wall where you can go to the top and jump off. The Trepachanga is a set of two parallel ropes suspended over the river where you can test your balancing skills. You can also take a ride on Salpichanga, the zip line that ends in the refreshing inlet waters. And no trip would be complete without grabbing some of the amazing photo ops from the Scenic Lighthouse with some of the best views of Xeh-Ha’.
