Get to know Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen vacations - Another awesome Caribbean destination is Playa del Carmen, in the Mayan Riviera.
It is popularly known as Playa which is part of the Mayan Riviera Mexico or Riviera Maya in Spanish.
It includes Playa del Carmen - Xcaret - Xpu-Ha - Akumal - Xel-Ha - Tulum and other small towns and beaches which are not as well known worldwide, but nevertheless spectacular.
The Yucatan Caribbean Coast is divided into two main areas, Cancun and the Riviera Maya) although, Cancun is now being promoted as part of the Riviera Maya.
Both Cancun and Playa del Carmen offer excellent resorts.
Fine white sand beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters, but....with a totally different environment and surroundings.
Hilton Cancun
In both places you can spend your holiday lying on the beach, participating in water sports galore, visiting one of the many nearby archaeological sites, cenotes and awesome attractions, fishing, snorkeling or scuba diving in one of the world’s largest reefs......
From Cancun to Playa it is a 40 minute drive.
Differences Between Cancun and Playa del Carmen
Cancun Vacations
It is a bustling, americanized, modern city, where you will find a long line of high-rise hotels along the beaches, one next to the other.
If you are looking for a fast paced, action packed vacation, would like to try different kinds of food and restaurants, go shopping for designer items in any of the upscale malls, experience the wild and exciting nightlife, and dance and party the night away, this is for you.
Cancun
This is the reason Cancun has great appeal to spring breakers, it is considered to be a famous spring break hot spot.
And this is also the main reason why my wife and I prefer our Playa del Carmen vacations instead of Cancun's.
Playa del Carmen Vacations
Playa del Carmen Vacations is the way to go if you want to relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches of the Mexican Caribbean (swimming, snorkeling, diving, chilling on the beach....).
The resort hotels (most of them all inclusive) are all low rise buildings, (by law you cannot build higher than three stories in this town) although there are some exceptions.....
Most of the all inclusive hotels and upscale residential homes are located in what is called Playacar Phase I and II which is a high end residential and tourist development including superb golf courses in Playa del Carmen.

Playa del Carmen
An all-inclusive resort is a hotel where almost everything is included in the price you have already paid for when you first booked your Playa del Carmen vacations (three meals daily, soft drinks, most alcoholic drinks, gratuities and many other services).
These kind of resorts usually have special package deals, which include airplane fee and car rental. They are fantastic.
Among other features of these resorts are - two or three pools, several restaurants, including specialty restaurants Italian, Chinese, Mexican etc, bars and of course snack and ice cream parlors which you can have all day long without paying an extra cent.
They vary in the services they offer, so it is a good idea, to read all about each one of them, including the fine print, when you are deciding which one to book.
Playa del Carmen and all the Mayan Riviera towns, have all inclusive resorts galore, you can choose the one that fits your budget.
The population in Playa, is a lot smaller than Cancun and has a very big European influence, sort of a European/Bohemian chic combination, which is one of the reasons it doesn’t appeal to spring breakers.
An interesting fact about this Tropical Paradise, is that all the streets in the city lead to the ocean.
